In order to keep up with the constant increase in new acronyms and abbreviations, above all in the technical field and data processing, a 2-volume Yearbook is published annually, as a supplement to the International Encyclopedia of Abbreviations and Acronyms in Science and Technology. Thus this comprehensive reference work remains constantly up-to-date. The Yearbook is a continuation of the 17 volume International Encyclopedia of Abbreviations and Acronyms in Science and Technology and the Yearbooks 2000 and 2001 which now have over 800,000 entries, and adds acronyms from a broad spectrum of different subjects and areas of life. Not only are officially recognised abbreviatio...ns included, but also outdated abbreviations and those in everyday use are taken into consideration. Approximately 68,000 entries are recorded in each of the two volumes. Volume 1 lists the abbreviations in alphabetical order giving their corresponding terms. Volume 2 presents the terms and their corresponding abbreviations the other way around. The abbreviations and acronyms included in the International Encyclopedia of Abbreviations and Acronyms in Science and Technology are the result of years of work based on an intensive study of the sources. The encyclopedia is based on a thorough and systematic analysis of numerous specialist publications, monographs, periodicals, reference works, official printed material and lists along with publications from specialist associations and standardisation institutions etc. The yearbook maintains the tried-and-tested format of the previous editions. With its annual supplements the International Encyclopedia of Abbreviations and Acronyms in Science and Technology is a valuable and accurate aid for scientists, technicians, engineers and students, when dealing with specialist subject literature. For specialist translators and librarians and also specialist shops it is an essential tool, one which is also suitable for anyone interested in science and technology.
