I qualified in 1988 from Newcastle Medical School and currently one of the Consultants in the new Emergency Department based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, which has was awarded Level 1 Major Trauma Centre status in April 2012.
I teach extensively nationally and internationally on bedside Point of Care Ultrasound and have co-authored a textbook on this.
I am the Co-Chair of the European Society of Emergency Medicine Ultrasound section and Vice Chair of the CEM Ultrasound Group.
I am also a co-convener of Royal College Surgeons England Resuscitative Thoracotomy Course.
I was appointed as Head of Department for the Great North Trauma & Emergency Centre, RVI from June 2015 to May 2017.
