Juror Joe Bova is a distinguished ceramic artist and educator. A BFA graduate from the University of Houston, with an MA from the University of New Mexico, he is a Professor emeritus at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where he taught from 1971 to 1990. He was awarded the SAF/National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in 1985 and the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art Fellowship in 1980. He has been a visiting artist at many schools, including New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred the University of Georgia`s Cortona, Italy, Program Haystack School in Maine and Penland School in North Carolina. He served as a Trustee and Board Member of Penland 1990-1998, and is also a Fellow and Past President of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA). His work has been exhibited internationally and included in many publications, including The Penland Book of Ceramics (Lark, 2003) The Nature of Craft and the Penland Experience, (Lark, 2004) and The Figure In Clay (Lark, 2005).
