FANTASTIC ART

This book brings together a colorful mixture of various works focusing onthemes of the fantastic and surreal, starting with Bocklin's "Toteninsel"and including Dorothea Tanning, Max Ernst, Hans Bellmer's dolls, theAustralian painter Sidney Nolan, Giger's monsters, Cattelan's pope, andthe Chapman brothers' hybrids, as well as surreal painting from Magritteand Delvaux, the mystical and sensual work of Gustav Klimt, and FridaKahlo's dreamlike self-portraits. Each book in TASCHEN's Basic Artmovement and genre series includes a detailed introduction withapproximately 30 photographs, plus a timeline of the most important events(political, cultural, scientific, sporting, etc.) that took place duringthe time period.
