The third edition of Radio System Design is an expansion of the previous edition, taking into account the many changes that have taken place in wireless technology since 1997. Among the new topics are wireless LANs (WLANs) detailed in IEEE 802.11. There are also subsections on IEEE 802.15, 802.16, 802.20, and the wireless metropolitan area network (WMAN). WiFi, WiMax and UWB (ultra-wideband) are described where these comparatively new radio specialities are demonstrating spectacular growth. Broadband radio is covered due to its growing importance in telecommunication, along with OFDM (offset frequency division multiplex), a comparatively new technique to transmit information in an interference environment. As in previous editions, there will be end-of-chapter questions and problems. A Solutions Manual will be provided for instructors.
