Andreas Lymberis was born in Patras, Greece, and graduated with B.Sc. degree in applied physics from Pierre et Marie Curie University of Paris, Paris, France, in 1985. He received the D.E.A. degree in 1987 in biomedical sciences with a thesis on NMR surface coils from the University of Paris XII, Paris, France, followed by the Ph.D. degree in biomedical sciences with a thesis on the characterization of tissues using ultrasound in 1990, also from the University of Paris XII.,After completing his military service, he was an Engineer in the applications of ultrasound for health monitoring in space (“GIP Ultrasons” and Matra Marconi Space, France). From 1993 to 1999, he was in the biomedical technology area, mainly in research and development on diagnostic techniques for severe brain injuries (Medical School of Athens, Intensive Care Department) and in health telematics in IT companies, Medisoft and Sysware (Greece), as R&D manager. In 1999, he joined the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium, as a Scientific Officer in the eHealth sector where he coordinated a group of R&D activities on smart wearable health systems and biomedical clothing. He is currently appointed to the Integrated Micro and Nano Systems Unit at the Information Society & Media Directorate-General where he is mainly involved in the R&D activities relating to the integration of micro-nano systems and smart textile and to the interaction of micro-nano systems with the leaving world. He has published over 30 articles in journals and conference proceedings.
