Building Vocabulary is part of the English Survival Series, which teaches basic reading and writing skills. Building Vocabulary, A, B, and C, is designed to help ESL/EFL students master the spelling skills they need to build their vocabulary and to increase their reading and writing ability. Each lesson in Levels A, B, and C is topic-based, with a vocabulary of 25 words. Included in each vocabulary list are structure words which help students progress in syntactical control. In every lesson there are exercises designed to develop spelling skills. A complete Teacher's Manual is available, providing answer keys for the exercises in all three student books and suggestions for presenting the vocabulary. A cumulative word list for Levels A, B, and C is presented by usage category, with references to specific levels and lessons. The Teacher's Manual also contains two evaluation/placement tests for each level. Other components of the English Survival Series include Identifying Main Ideas A, B, and C; Recognizing Details A, B, and C; Using the Context A, B, and C; and Writing Sentences and Paragraphs A, B, and C. The same lesson topics are developed in the corresponding levels of each set of books. Thus, each set may be used separately or in conjunction with any or all of the others in the series. Students and teachers alike will appreciate the flexibility of this unique series and the way in which it breaks down important language skills into manageable segments for study.
