The history of the famous Italian furniture design company Cassina, whose products have been an innovative and brilliant expression of Italian design for decades. Cassina SpA was founded in 1927 in the northern Italian region of Brianza. Since then it has been a preeminent design leader and manufacturer of original contemporary furniture and its name is spontaneously associated with Italian style. The list of designers reads like a brief history of design: from the pioneering work of Gio Ponti to the conceptually flamboyant designs of Philippe Starck. From the sculptural shapes of Vico Magistretti, and humanistic industrial style of Mario Bellini, to the innovative forms of Toshiyuki Kita, and the artistic expression of Gaetano Pesce. All of them epitomize Cassinas commitment to the Italian design ideals of craftsmanship and quality. Many of their objects are a true fusion of industrial technology with artisan manufacturing and have become icons of design, included in museums of design and contemporary art collections.
