The 1991 novel American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis is a first person narrative describing episodes in the life of a wealthy young Manhattanite and self-proclaimed serial killer. The novel's graphically violent and sexual content was widely commented on at the time of its release. A film adaptation was released in 2000.
